I wasn't aware of Dilworth's images or involvement in music until I watched this great documentary, despite the fact that he played with and documented some of my favourite bands. I think I even visited his shop on my last visit to Berlin. The film reveals him to be a modest but seminal figure, a gentle, perceptive, committed craftsperson equally at home in the darkroom and a sweaty club. Bromley's patient, non-invasive approach allows Dilworth the time to digress, slowly stitching the details of a life together, not unlike the way a photobook or album builds an idea through juxtaposition and rhythm. The shots of Berlin are atmospheric but never intrude in Dilworth's story. Marvellous.
