OK so it plays like a commercial, but it is a very good commercial

This documentary is very short and if I am honest the way it is delivered I was almost waiting for the Nike swoosh or some other corporate logo to come up at the end. The subject of the film is Heather "The Heat" Hardy, a single mother whose life changed when she got pregnant young and then changed again recently when Hurricane Sandy destroyed her home. She has taken up professional boxing to help support herself and her daughter.

This isn't so much a documentary as it is an uplifting segment to be shown during a fundraiser or perhaps used as an advert. The music plays throughout giving the film a forward momentum that draws you in and, while we hear Hardy throughout in narration, the film is all clips and footage. The downside of this is that it isn't really a documentary and we don't really learn too much about the person, the world she lives in, the sport she is part of and so on. The upside is that the film is all spirit and feeling; this is partly from the delivery but mainly from Hardy herself as her spirit of determination and her drive to keep going and keep fighting is really positive and uplifting. Yes it is superficial and a bit glossy in terms of content, which is why I think it feels like a corporate piece of commercial, but this is not to say that the film isn't any good, because it is.

Hardy is engaging in the few minutes we listen to her, while Eversole and Forrest's direction, construction and delivery makes the film grab you and make you feel lifted up by the energy of it, which is what it does well even if it does feel like you should immediately go out and buy yourself a particular brand of trainers.
