This movie is actually an edited version of the first 13 episodes of the television series "Britt Allcroft's Magic Adventures of Mumfie", which aired originally in 1994 on CiTV and in re-runs on Nick Jr, which then aired in the United States on in 1995 on Fox Kids and in re-runs on Fox Family, in Canada on TVOntario and YTV, and in Australia on ABC. Some scenes from the original nine-and-a-half minute episodes used are removed in order to shorten the movie's length. Three examples include a scene in which the bully pigs attack Pinkey, an extra verse in "Gotta Sing, Gotta Whistle, Gotta Dance", and the Electric Eel telling Mumfie and Scarecrow that she hates the pirates because they stuff her species into jam jars. The narrator's cliffhangers and the times at which some pieces of background music played are also altered in the movie.
