What a fantastic short film! I didn't know what to expect going in, but I was greatly surprised by the film noir tone and the cinematography. Popeye being presented as a street fighter who fights for money is a great twist on the character and makes sense if he existed in the real world. Popeye not relying on a can of spinach harkens back to the original comic strips where Popeye was just a guy who was basically had super human strength. This short film is such a refreshing take and the writer/director Michael Valentine should be considered to helm any new live action or animated film in the works by the studios. I cant wait for his Popeye feature film!
