This seems to have been generally well received but I found it very disappointing, probably because I'm not familiar with Charlie's previous series "This Country", so from the little information on the iPlayer I expected a straight documentary series. However, half of the first episode (all I watched) was taken up with fictionalised mock-doc stuff about Charlie and his family, which didn't interest me in the least. I was hoping for an insight into our culture - I didn't much care about whether the host was going to spend Christmas with his dad. All we learned about the Ottery St Mary tar barrel event is that no-one is sure of its origins. Same about the Morris dancing. "We don't know how it started but here's some people doing it. Will they let me have a go? No." If you're coming to this from Charlie's other series and looking for a bit of easy watching, you may like it. If you're hoping for an investigation into the nominal subject matter - in other words, an actual documentary, you needn't bother.
