It was a privilege to see another Violet Du Feng film last week. From the tragedy of government overreach to the personal dilemmas faced by innocent men who are caught in the cultural backlash of those enforcements, the audience is allowed a close up look at how they are addressing their obstacles. Putting their lives and the lives of their dating coach (and his wife) under this microscope gives an unintended reality show quality at times to the humanity and humor of good people trying to do their best.

So many scenes evoke a type of empathy that reveals the layered complexity of their lives, all while knowing that other cultures around the world will be learning about these fellow human beings for the first time. Film makers have done justice to these volunteers, helping us to see them and feel for them.
