I just wished this film was made with funny and absurd situations and dialogues. I am saying that, because in the end this film earned some laughter. But till then it was serious and this in an awkward way. For me it seemed to struggle where to lead the story and where to put the focus. Struggling to tell something, to show characters and their real relationships to each other. Why all the struggles: because it felt like it had to get to a special twist, on which leans the whole story. It didn't feel natural, not credible, not authentic. Actually that's the main reason I had difficulties to like it. Till the end I kind of felt myself lost and marooned and was expecting what the film promised to be, because I really enjoy the great idea and how it sells itself when you read about. But the outcome is just - meh. It's no story of somebody who's homecoming. Of course there is somebody who returns back home, but only for one reason. He has a mission. Why? Nobody will ever know. The given answers are no credible answers. However, at least the ending was good, even though it was predictable. The message (on a letter) was okay, but is that enough? Profound? I doubt it. Superficial? Hell yeah! I had the feeling the Auteur has nothing to say. He could, because behind his idea i can see great potential. But it seems that's not what the filmmaker wants (or what he can't?) to tell. Honestly that's a pity. And yeah, I still have so many questions and don't understand so many decisions in the making: beats, storytelling, tonality and staging. But it seems to be the Auteur's first work, so I'm forgiving all that.

But do I have to watch 2 hours for a message that is out written into a note to one of the characters? For that, a short film would be a better choice.

Anyway! I was about to give 4 points, but thank to the inconsistency of the film, in the end it turned to its real essence I wished it was there right from the beginning.

By the way: what really annoys me after third minute: there's Hein, this guy, who returns back home after 14 years. And all what it's about is that nobody remembers him and I'm asking myself: does he remember the others???? Come on, we're in a village of 30-40 souls... he behaves like they're all foreigners. No one mentioned by their names. Just saying.
