Alternate versions
The original opening was completely different. Because the Director was under the impression his father was intending to flee to Mexico, the beginning foreshadowed this. When production wrapped, he realized there was no way he was going to take off to Mexico and not return. Tucson, after all, is only a 30 minute drive to the border. It seemed high unlikely he would drive to Phoenix and take two flights to Florida (which are facts he did this). When someone intends to flee, the last thing they would do is buy a plane ticket.
