It's a view of Venice as settled as can be, with the gondolas -- ost of which, I am told are gone -- traveling down the the canals Venice has been sinking into the Adriatic Sea as long as it's been there, and has prospered in spite of, or perhaps because of that. It's certain an excellent coastal river port.
