We can't tell if The Mystery of Champlain is mystery ...or not. It a documentary film that defies you to follow the story

There is a short indroduction by a talking-head with a mic, outdoors, overlooking the citidel and the St Lawrence River at Quebec City.

From then on, we get handcuffed to the production's bombastic flatulence.

Perhaps there is a good story about Champlain somewhere in there between the half second visual edits and post production preening.

We found it difficult to find one.

And perhaps the film's stroboscopic editing is the apex of this documentary.

Possibly the makers of the documentary had a great a need to be loved. So they really really, really tried to make it realy realy interesting.

The film uses many paintings and photographs. We get to see a lot of still pictures, paintings and maps. But, we never get to see them for very long.
