Funny as hell and very real at the same time.

Damn great.

First special I saw of his, pretty much have only known him from podcast appearances/compilations as well as youtube shorts, from which apparently I knew 75% of all the bits in this (even though very condensed and sorta outta context).

Still banged. Hard.

He just nails the tightrope walk of being funny as heck and real at the same time. It kinda hit me...not that undeep, in a way that good standup is supposed to.

Because (in my eyes) standup is nothing but a bare bones auteur theater monologue that is also funny.

I mean, not necessarily...it can just be a guy (or a girl, or a girl, don't come at me) being funny making noises and stuff without anything personal to it, but I've seen standup specials that barely made me laugh, if at all, that I thought were great. Because it was visceral and personal and...just hit me somewhere kinda sorta deep. And those I tend to like more than the ones that have me laughing for an hour, but are "just" jokes.

And I think the reason this got me someplace is because of how...secretly vulnerable it is... :D Because he's sharing a lot of who he is and where he's from without the demeanor of someone who's being vulnerable. So, without being weird, I mean. :D He's just being funny and fun. Like a ninja at group therapy.

...a clown ninja. :)

I don't know why or how, but this gave me the same kind of fascination as watching Norm McDonald's special did. Which was a totally random thing for me, since I did not know who he was. I just found it somewhere and watched it, and was a little fascinated.
