The title takes advantage of the double meaning encompassed in the term "period drama." The primary meaning of "period drama" is a serious story set during a historical era before the present day. But another meaning of "period" (according to the Oxford English Dictionary, in use since at least the 1600s) is menstruation. Another comedy that took advantage of this double meaning was the British TV series Fleabag, in which two characters have a conversation about classic movies and one of them, when asked for her "favorite period film," replies, "Carrie."
