Simple road trip story, that doesn't add anything new to it's core

Watched at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival.

As a whole, this movie is a simple road trip story with some interesting moments, but doesn't really have anything new to say. It's clear Ramzi Bashour has a good vision with what he is wanting to express. Bashour does offer some good direction on the tone, camerawork and concepts. I did like some of the sound designs and certain aspects about the road trip writing. But as a whole, the writing is simple, predictable, and doesn't add anything new. Each beat on family conflict, style, pacing, and arches are familiar, cheesy, and nothing new, which makes the story not fulling engaging at times.

The performances from Lubna Azabal and Daniel Zolghadri are pretty good. Azabal has some good chemsitry with Zolghadri. Alongside with Dale Dickey, which in my opinion, she was the best part of the movie. However, the characters, sadly, aren't interesting. Mainly because the characters are too predictable, and at times, are a little unlikable. Which makes it a little difficult to believe a single word or care about them. The dialogue moments feel somewhat clunky, as if some of the discussions felt cheap, and weirdly written.

The camerawork is good, and there are some colorful presentation. At the end, Bashour seems passionate about this story and I do applaud him for being able to make it. But the experience is mostly okay, and a bit forgettable.
