Made as an LGBTQ positive video with a slightly comical approach, "The Bi Apple" fails more from timidity than being controversial. It doesn't represent cutting edge "positive" pornography of 2007 and is merely quaint (or dull) to watch 15 years later.

It was released by Adam & Eve, at the time experimenting briefly in releasing "alt-porn" DVDs in addition to its mainstream product line. The approach of director Audacia Ray, a sincere LGBTQ+ activist, is summed up in the statement appearing at the beginning of the video: "A Dirty Movie Inspired by the Good Perverts of New York City".

Shot in Manhattan at what is called "The Fu*k House" (actually just some Greenwich Village apartment building), it concerns a college research project by Simone (played by Simone Valentino, who made a handful of Adult videos but like the rest of the cast is amateur talent), to investigate, almost Margaret Mead style, the strange denizens of Manhattan and their queer (puns intended) life styles. As a Manhattan resident I find this quaint.

Problem is that nothing much happens once this premise is established. Simone wanders around in various apartments, watches the locals have sex in various ways, gets aroused, and joins in herself. Of course, the hippie philosophy of "everything is everything" is at work here, but without conflict or anything resembling dramatics, the results constitute generic porn, hardly what Ray intended.

The timidity is represented in several ways: transgender folk are omitted completely, and the Bi pun (on Big Apple) of the show's title is a clue to what we get. Movie climaxes and ends with Simone in a 3-way XXX scene with two gay guys, and she gets to masturbate, peg Antonio Rodickuez in the ass with her strap-on dildo, and watch the dudes do 69. Anal sex content is strictly by dildo or fingering, with usually girl on boy action. Gay porn here is fellatio only, typical of old-tme VHS era Bi porn. Simone also has a black on black lesbian sex scene with ReVay, using many sex toys (NOTE: Adam & Eve specializes in selling same).

Among the amateurs, Tasty Trixie is a blonde with an impressive natural rack who gets to peg submissive male Tucker Lee, but this is the only credit on both of their resumes. Had Ray included full-blown (pun definitely not intended) Gay porn and Transsexual content, the video would have much more impact when viewed today, now that the traditional audience (and marketing) barriers between mainstream, gay and transsexual porn are breaking down (see for example the career arc of current star Dante Colle).
