The Proton Resurgence

This was Bob Newhart's first appearance in what became a recurring role as Professor Proton. Series creator Chuck Lorre had wanted Newhart to appear in one of his shows for years and finally suggested The Big Bang Theory (2007) to him. Newhart agreed, as long as it was a recurring role and the episodes would be taped live.

Sheldon repeatedly addresses Professor Proton as 'Mr. Jeffries', even after Arthur Jeffries had told him that he has a Ph.D. As a stickler for detail and as a mark of the respect he obviously feels, Sheldon should have addressed him as 'Dr. Jeffries'.

On what is perhaps the most bewildering experience of my life, I have, for the most part, chosen to remain silent. There have been times when it felt like I was actually swallowing my thoughts. But this comes at a price. Suppressed cogitation tends to gestate. It grows into something else. Self-immolating bitterness is one of the outcomes I've tried to avoid. That has tumor written all over it. Alternatively, these thoughts could morph into something beautiful; Superman's diamond wrought from a lump of coal comes to mind. But one thing's for sure, whatever the hell is growing inside me has to eventually be pushed out. Once it arrives, I'll leave it to others to decide if its metaphorical journey into daylight was through my metaphorical vaginal canal or my metaphorical ass.
