"The Lovers" is AMAZING on so many levels.

People who love LGBTQ+ stories, and of course GL, HAVE to watch this. We were literally fed for FREE (since it's on youtube) with one of the most gorgeous and creative animations I've seen.

The animation is absolutely beautiful, but it's the small details that really make it special. So many things are metaphorical and intentionally placed, and the transitions are just chef's kiss (lol, especially since the main character is a seafood chef). Even the positions of the characters and the backgrounds are worth paying attention to, because they can tell you so much about how the characters are feeling without needing to say it directly. You can actually feel when a character is pressured just through the animation and the way the scene is delivered. Absolutely cinema.

The movie also has some really important messages. I especially loved how it deals with family pressure, grief, and loss. It feels very real, especially for people who have experienced that kind of pressure themselves. I also really liked the message that sometimes you have to make your own choices, even when they aren't what other people expect or want from you. You have to follow what feels right for you, and sometimes it's okay to be selfish and choose yourself.

And then there's the yuri. Yeah. They did it beautifully. The intimacy is peak, and the tension? You can FEEL it. The relationship between the main characters feels genuinely intimate and personal rather than just being there for the sake of having a GL story. There are so many little details that you'll probably want to pause every few seconds just to make sure you didn't miss something, and you'll definitely want to rewatch some of the intimate moments between the main leads.

Honestly, I finished it wanting more, but at the same time I didn't feel like I had wasted my time or that it left me unsatisfied. It felt like I had actually experienced something beautiful and meaningful, and that's worth a lot.
