      The film was originally going to feature an Adélie penguin robot. When Daniel Chong first submitted the script to Pete Docter and the heads of Pixar, he stated that they loved the script, but suggested he change the species of the robot. According to Pete Docter, there are no shortage of animated penguin films. When Chong learned how beavers are ecosystem engineers, he changed the robot from a penguin to a beaver and the story fell into place. After two rewrites, Hoppers was finally greenlit.
