When Blynn unlocks the family mailbox, pulls out the drawer, and takes out the letter from Walter at around 45 mins, he pushes the drawer closed and leaves with the letter, forgetting the key in the drawer's lock. He leaves the key in the lock again when he later finds a letter from the publisher at around 1h 22 mins.
