As a young successful Hispanic business women growing up in the 1960's, I was confident and proud of who I was and wanted more than anything to forge ahead in life and become a positive role model. Between Western & California is a movie about being confident and knowing deep in our hearts that no matter what others say, confidence and a secure attitude will prevail. Progress and change are good and we should all embrace it. It starts with each generation telling the other that we are all the same and have the opportunities for greatness, if we only looked outside the box. I might add, that the scenes in this movie were terrific, as well as the dialog, acting and professional work ethics of everyone involved. The director, Nicolas Medina touches on a subject that still needs years of positive dialog in Hispanic communities across this country, especially for the generation of Hispanic children who are the future of this country. We need more Hispanic actors, directors, writers, producers; individuals who can be taught film making are out there in our communities eager to learn. They need mentors and I know the mentors are out there. I don't claim to be an expert film critic or moviegoer, but this film really had something special to establish; I hope someone with vision reads this and gives this young director kudos and maybe word will get out to Sundance that this film, however short, was made from the heart and soul of this young Nicolas Medina.
