The fifth installment of the Thornhill Diaries, made in two parts, though a third part is falsely advertised in a "To be continued..." card at the end of Part 2, finds the future genius of Adult Cinema Nica Noelle showing great prowess early in her directorial career.

It continues the Girlfriends Films salute to the annual Girls in White ball, a celebration of young lesbians coming out in society. Actually, the ball is an excuse for predatory older lesbians in Thornhill (seemingly the entire population over 25) holding a meat/meet market for seducing sweet young things.

Part 1 focuses on the preparations for the gala, with 2-1/2 hours of Sapphic romance and banter, though the DVD over-promises "3 Hours of Lesbian Sex". Star is Nina Hartley, who is opening her Hartley Manor for the first time in 15 years to greet the young beauties, plus some old pals and enemies.

Nica's script, co-written by one "J.S. Jensen" (I would like to think it's Jelena Jensen, but there's no evidence to that effect) deftly connects to Episode 4 of "Thornhill Diaries", which was titled "Lesbian Psychotherapists 1". (The Thornhill Diaries portmanteau films are virtually unique in modern cinema/video, in that they draw upon stand- alone features grouped under this rubric, in recent years mapping one- on-one with the popular "Twisted Passions" series.)

Many characters from Episode 4 return here, notably Heather Silk and Trinity Post. They are two of Nica's patients, as she starred in Episode 4 as a psychoanalyst with bad intentions.

Opening vignette has blonde Sasha Knox seducing her teacher Kylie Ireland in a slow but sure (and sensual) tour de force that really gets things rolling. Starting off wearing glasses and looking prim & proper, Kylie gets down and keeps up with the aggressive young girl, while staying in character (none of her gonzo antics here).

Elexis Monroe and Samantha Ryan (there's star power for you) are buddies who have sex together on the eve of the big event, perhaps the perfect segment for loyal fans who, like me, can't get enough of these two eminently talented actresses.

But Nica really puts on the pressure when the action turns to Madame Hartley's home, where she is finishing her training of what she (and everyone else) calls her slaves. Perfect casting here, as no one can do domination as strictly and carefully as Nina, making sure that every matter of etiquette is adhered to by her lovely young trio of Trinity Post, Satine Phoenix and Heather Silk. This is a very well-written scene, which draws in the viewer with precision, and makes the placement of each fork and dish an educational experience.

Nina uses a slave collar as her designated-hitter device, having Satine place her collar on Trinity's neck in advance of the little redhead going under the dining room table to service Miss Hartley. For her amusement, Nina orders the other two gals to hump each other on the table, as elegant a sex scene as the Marquis de Sade's influential "Philosophy in the Bedroom".

After this quality segment, Nica takes Satine into her own bedroom for some discipline. The lesbian BDSM is a specialty of actress/educator Nina's and the resulting slapping, spanking, licking and fingering session, with a mighty strap-on-dildo thrown in, ends Part 1 with a bang. But in the coda, Nica meets with her current age-appropriate girlfriend Veronica Snow to deliver key exposition setting up Part 2: the actual ball, in which trouble is in store for both ladies: Nica having run away from slavery at Hartley Manor 15 years ago after having an abortion, and poor Veronica still recovering from last year's ball where her fiancée Brea Bennett was stolen away by Emilianna (depicted in Episode 2 of Thornhill Diaries), and she'll have to face Ms. E at this year's event. Stay tuned for Part 2.
