With a title that suggests a Demille comedy -- at least in the English translation -- I expected some humor. Well, except for a sharp-tongued mother, there isn't any I can see. Instead, it is a rapidly executed social drama, with the spoiled young of the rich clipping poor coolies with their autos and hurrying on to bed, with Chen losing his job, and so forth. Perhaps I am missing some social cues because I am not Chinese and this is not 1929 in any case, but there's little of interest here, despite competent late-silent technical skills.
