So Red Steel was one of the first Wii games to exist and it shows.

Red Steel is a launch FPS.

The story is the worst part of the game because it has little of interest to the narrative. We play as Scott, the main protagonist who's mostly silent. His girlfriend is stolen by the Yakuza for the Katana Giri. Now he must save her. The story the way it's told is through scripted events and horrible first person cutscenes. Whenever you talk to a important NPC you'd better believe you're gonna zoom into that guy's face. I just lost gas after 4 levels.

The setting is nice. It's very quirky and picturesque depiction of modern and tradtional Japanese culture. Complete with swords, ninjas, anime girls, Cute bunnies, pachinko machines, and the like

The graphics are the best you'll get on the Wii. Right next to Super Mario Galaxy everything is so dang clean, and detailed, so detailed the poor Wii struggles to reach over 10 frames per second causing severe lag. But oh my god there are God Rays, and rim lighting on everything. Why is there rim lighting on everything? Why was this such a thing in the Wii Era? Red Steel is a T rated game so there is no blood besides when you gintsu fish. The camera is too zoomed out. Causing an obvious mixed bag.

The gameplay is innovative but dumb. So few games will have you use the Wii mote to shoot away at baddies with precision. Slow down and stop time. Have real time physics and collision. Like pushing over tables with the nunchucks. The most hype thing in this game is just so abysmal. Players can Katana fight in this game. Too bad it has you limited in between strong attacks and short attacks. There is a broken or short sword that I use to perform melee attacks on enemies. But the boss fights are just so painful and unbalanced. So strict and rigid that most people just give up. I never gave up though because Red Steel is so lit. There are so many fun levels, like shoot outs in warehouses, creepy mazes full of Anime dolls giggling, Sushi restaurants, Japanese gardens and more. Plus a myriad of Guns at your disposal. It feels way more innovative than most FPS before it. Even though it's just an overblown Halo 2.

The music is full of Baby metal, Traditional Japanese music, and more. The voices are full of Japanese barks like "HARE CHATEO!" "KEGOSA!" "BAKA GAIJIN!"

Overall I would buy Red Steel. Just like the time I bought Red Steel from seeing my dead beat dad at rehab. Remake this Ubi!
