Actor Paul Calderon (Detective Marcus Feingold) once again continues the tradition of playing multiple different characters in the L&O universe. He appeared in five episodes of Law & Order (1990), three episodes of New York Undercover (1994), one episode of Law & Order: Trial by Jury (2005), one episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (1999) and two episodes of Law & Order: Criminal Intent (2001). He played a total of 12 different characters.

The execution in the first scene depicts a butterfly needle being inserted into the vein of the condemned man and then being taped down. Real lethal injection requires two large bore intravenous catheters, one primary and one backup. Butterfly needles are for blood collection or injecting small amount of medication. Taping the needle in the manor shown would be likely to puncture the vein and foul the injection. If a butterfly was really used in an execution, it would likely constitute cruel and unusual punishment because low flow rate and long injection time for the lethal cocktail to take effect.
