My favorite British XXX director is Anjali Kara, but another femme helmer from Blighty with a most distinctive style is Anna Span. I discovered her work by chance in my current survey of post-millennium Brit Porn and was very pleasantly impressed.

Making "Be My Toy Boy" even more interesting is a feature-length BTS documentary, far better than the usual junkers you see on American DVDs. Not only did it shed light on the filmmaker's technique and philosophy, but the off-the- cuff statements by cast members rang true for a change, never lapsing into the b.s. "fans want to hear" which is endemic to the inbred Chatsworth Adult community.

What I gleaned from both feature and doc is that Anna and her nearly all-female- crew are about creating realistic, believable explicit-sex content, reminiscent of the independently derived Lesbian Cinema movement in the U.S. typified by Girlfriends Films especially. She stresses to her players that the dialog/acting scenes organically flow into the sex performances, to me a crucial element in making porn worth watching and what is so obviously absent in the Gonzo Revolution, where the token dialog set-ups are so artificial and unrelated to what follows.

Benefitting Anna's approach is a cast of unfamiliar faces: all five actresses are blondes but they have a real "lived-in" look, rather than the artificial "I'm a star!" gloss of most fake superstar talent.

Most recognizable to me was Starr, a buxom lady who I only found out about through my current research, as she rarely has been cast in big-name productions. She wasn't even listed for this feature in IMDb until I annotated the credits.

Starr stars in opening vignette titled "Cougar Kill", setting the tone for the whole feature. She is an ebullient sort, chatting up the barman at an empty bar, and easily convincing him to take her upstairs for a shag. Her forward, jive-talking personality brought this non-character alive, as Anna relies on her players to improvise, just giving them the bare bones of what they'll be playing.

The bareback sex, including anal and an ATM is arousing, and instead of dullsville porn-speak, Starr keeps up the chatter in character while they're having sex. To sum up her role, I would call her cheeky.

"Mummy's Boy" is an unusual segment in which Anna makes excellent use of a non-actor, who had a great time "slumming" in Adult for the occasion -we learn this in the documentary. She's played by Amanda, the mummy of the title, not a walking dead but rather parent of sheltered Deano. She's hired a Spanish-speaking cleaning lady Conchita who barely understands English but listens dutifully to motor-mouth Amanda's rapid-fire recitation of exactly how to clean the silver, polish a fragile mirror, etc., etc., while she'll be out for two hours, leaving the "hoovering" (I love the local argot in Brit productions) for when she gets back. But don't, whatever you do, disturb my boy sleeping upstairs Conchita -he's got to be fresh for an important school exam.

Lightly comic vignette has Conchita making a bee-line for the bedroom as soon as mom's gone, waking up the kid and humping him. This enjoyable short story had an ending that fooled me -when mom get's home she doesn't get predictably mad at the gold-bricking maid but is too infatuated with her up and about son to notice her orders have been ignored.

"My Son's Best Friend" concerns a very unusual Adult performer Heidi Vincent, whose real-life background as champion weight-lifter is integrated into the piece seamlessly. She hasn't been in training mode for years, but her legs still exhibit those massive muscles one associates with fitness fanatics.

Her son's away so she entertains his pal Keni Styles, who's not averse to removing his shirt to show her his musculature. It doesn't take much for them to get it on on the couch, and the sex scene has the nice touch of her striking somewhat acrobatic poses while humping.

"Diet Cock Break" has veteran Brit Porn stalwart Stefan Hard paired with Karen Kay in a cute office sex routine. He's doing some repairs and carpentry, causing Kay to gossip admiringly with co-worker Tracy about him. Tracy, another talented Non-sex performer, exits on a trumped-up errand to let the other two have sex and it's a fun event, ending in a cream pie.

Finale titled "Boy Next Door" has enthusiastic Jane Bond coming on to tall and young new neighbor Roger, who takes the bait and visits her later on for some MILF lovin'. Based on their unique looks and obvious talent I was surprised that both performers have next to no credits to their names.
