The Arborist is a slow but intriguing horror story. The mother and son arborists have some complicated history, and both argue over grief. The elderly man of the estate that hires them to remove some trees is peculiar and strange, apparently hiding the reason for the removal of the trees.

The first part of the film appears to be family drama, with two stories unraveling. Then, part two starts the confusion of the son seeing things or is it supernatural? Part three pulls the movie to it's conclusion, drawing the elements to the surface.

Acting was decent if characters were whiny and annoying at times. But, they weren't completely out of character for the situation they are experiencing. The folk horror turns a bit away from it's origins, but the family part does nicely to keep it connected even as the deviation unfolds to conclude the story.
