I wasn't expecting much from this low-budget, no-name, independent offering. However, I was quite surprised at the advanced level of storytelling and believable performances, in this rich, compelling, drama. There wasn't actually a Satan character in the film, but the actor who played the evil, Mr. Stone, came pretty close. He delivered a powerful, less-is-more, performance as the dominating, greedy and maniacal, married boss and lover of Cassandra Tate. It's a love triangle, good vs. evil, integrity vs. material things, kinda movie. Not a lot of action, but a really good script, in which most everyone can identify with at least one of the movie's main characters. Cassandra makes some pretty costly choices and trades her morality for the lavish lifestyle afforded her by her boss/lover. A handsome, caring, Christian guy tries to deliver her from the mess that she's in. Catastrophic, deadly, consequences arise, as Cassandra's desperate trek to redemption unfolds. Not a perfect movie, (the sound's less than stellar and some scenes where too dark), but Deal with the Devil is well worth seeing. A Very good supporting cast, especially the scene-stealing actress who played the conniving, ladder-climbing, back-stabbing, Melinda. Loved the use of black and white footage, classic luxury cars, soulful music and Memphis backdrop. I wish more films featuring African-Americans had this much heart, depth and realism. Well done.
