This case was based on Oscar the therapy cat, who lived in a Providence, Rhode Island nursing home and appeared to predict the deaths of residents. After he predicted the deaths of 25 people, the staff began calling next of kin when Oscar slept with someone. He was written up in The New England Journal of Medicine in 2007, and multiple news stories were written about him. Oscar died in 2022, and is believed to have predicted the deaths of over 100 people. There are many theories about how he did it, including smell, lack of movement, and just confirmation bias or coincidence, but the true answer is unknown.
