The movie was inspired from Indian writer Chetan Bhagat's "Five Point Someone". The author had expressed his unhappiness over not getting due credit for the film's story, which led to counter attacks by Aamir Khan, Director Rajkumar Hirani and Producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra.
