Iron Man/X-O Manowar in Heavy Metal

This is the first collaboration between Marvel Comics and Valiant Comics. Valiant Comics is an imprint of Voyager Communications, a company started by Jim Shooter and Steve Massarsky after they, along with a group of investors tried to purchase Marvel Entertainment but were outbid by financier Roland Perelman. In 1989, Shooter and Massarsky founded Voyager Communications with significant venture capital financing from Triumph Capital and released their first comic book under Valiant in 1991. By 1994, Voyager Communications was purchased by video game developer and publisher Acclaim Entertainment for $65 million. On June 22nd 1994, Marvel Entertainment announced a wide-ranging alliance with Acclaim Entertainment that called for Acclaim to co-develop and publish video games based on Marvel properties and gave Acclaim exclusive rights to The Fantastic Four and Iron Man. This game was developed by Realtime Associates and allowed Acclaim to use the Iron Man license and paired him with their owned IP armored comic character X-O Manowar. Acclaim made use of their other exclusive Marvel license and released Fantastic Four (1997) a year later. The companies also agreed for Acclaim to distribute properties under the Marvel Software label for the next several years, including Spider-Man and Wolverine.
