Originally completed in 2001 as an undergraduate internship project, Swanson digitally re-mastered the source footage in 2002. By 2004 he had completed an all-new version of the film. In August of 2004 Don posted the film on Undergroundfilm.org where it was viewed over 20,000 times within its first six months of release. Gallows has become an Internet micro-cinema cult hit of sorts as it has been viewed and written about the world over. It remains one of the highest-rated, and overall successful, films on Undergroundfilm.org.
