Close Combat is the original game that made me understand how special this series could be. It may look simple today, but the core idea is still brilliant. Instead of feeling like a normal strategy game where units obey every command like machines, it makes the soldiers feel human. They panic, hesitate, refuse dangerous orders and sometimes surprise you in the best possible way.

That is what made me get stuck on it. The Normandy setting, the real time tactical battles and the focus on morale gave the game a tension that still feels unique. Every small decision matters, from where you place a machine gun to when you dare to move infantry across open ground. It is not just about winning a map, it is about trying to keep your men alive while everything falls apart around them.

Of course, it has aged. The interface is rough by modern standards, the presentation is limited and later games in the series improved many things. But as the beginning of Close Combat, this is still very strong. It has atmosphere, personality and a tactical soul that made the whole series worth following. For me, this is the original that made me want more.
