Because of this film franchise, the word guwaping (or gwaping) became a popular Filipino slang term used to describe an exceptionally good-looking male or a "pretty boy". It is derived from the Spanish-rooted word "gwapo" (handsome). The term became a massive pop culture staple in the Philippines during the early 1990s due to a highly popular all-male teen group of the same name. They are the stars of this Guwapings: The First Adventure (1992) and this sequel.
