After going to great lengths to tape-record the first telephone contact from Jennifer's kidnapper, Adam doesn't bother to whatsoever for the second one (which they are expecting), as doing this would not serve the plot any further. In reality an investigator would be keen for as many clues to be discovered as possible to trace the missing girl.
