The Chief, Tige Andrews, was actually named Tiger in real life by his parents. Before MOD SQUAD he gained famed on the THE DETECTIVES in the early 60s, the partner to tough cop Robert Taylor. Andrews said in later years that he was so proud of the MOD SQUAD and that it was still alive in reruns decades later. He's the whole show here, and to note, this was an episode ahead of its time. Captain Greer shoots and kills a robbery suspect, and can't get the incident out of his mind. It was one of a few episodes at the time to seriously deal with traumatized cops. Tige Andrews is excellent here and may have earned an Emmy nod for his performance. Greer decides to take some time off to relax and meets mystery lady Larraine Stevens at a lakeside resort. Now someone is targeting him and he's poisoned. Hmmm? Stevens played this type of role in many cop shows. Is she a friend or foe? Stevens always reminded me of Anne Francis. A memorable supporting cast with Jean Byron (Patty Duke's tv mom) and Tom Collins (Mike's boss on the BRADY BUNCH) as a fun couple who pair up with Tige and Larraine. Note Paramount began using Chevrolets in all their series and Tige and Larraine are cruising in a sleek green Impala, just before he gets a major attack. It also looks like he did the stunt as the Chevy jumps a curve and they go skidding into a parking lot. A well done scene, especially if he was driving. Peggy Lipton goes under cover, sporting a dark wig, a thing she did in a previous episode and truly looks like another person. This episode definitely has its moments, and a little bit creepy.
