Roy Thinnes who played attorney Sheridan Beckworth was the first and original District Attorney in Law & Order (1990). He played District Attorney Alfred Wentworth in the pilot of Law and Order produced in 1988 for CBS, which CBS decided not to follow up. When NBC chose to broadcast Law and Order in 1990, the network aired that original pilot as episode 6, Everybody's Favorite Bagman (1990) Although episode 1 of the first series billed Adam Schiff (Steven Hill) as the first DA, by virtue of the earlier pilot Roy Thinnes was the original series' District Attorney.
