Nicholas Courtney suggested to Philip Hinchcliffe that the Brigadier be killed off in this story, as he had become aware that he would no longer be required in the series' new format. Hinchcliffe turned down the idea, feeling that it would be an inappropriate fate for a character that had been so popular.

Goofs
Around 12m 21s When the Doctor and Sarah enter the base it is in darkness and the Doctor suggests the power cells have drained. However, when they examine the desk at the rear of the room it is brightly lit, with their shadows visible on the wall. As they turn towards the entrance the room is again in darkness.
