One day before principal photography starts, Ipoh (the main location) was surrounded by the seasonal haze from the Indonesian forest fires. Yasmin remarked that if it were to be hazy all month she would rename Gubra to Gabur (which is a pun on the word Kabur) meaning blurry. Not unlike her first TV movie Rabun (2003) title.
