A brief look on Brazil during the military regime

A short documentary/manifesto reflecting on the military dictatorship in Brazil and how it affected culture and society in the country, from its inception in 1964. Through several photos, audio and archive footage from the period and its key important moments, the piece also consists of voice overs from artists like musician Caetano Veloso, filmmaker Carlos Diegues, theater director Zé Celso and others reflecting about the dark period, and the artistic works produced at the time in order to express and protest.

"Fênix" ("Phoenix") is a brief yet important historical collage of a turbulent moment through the optic of a more favorable time period - still under the military command but with the opening to democracy and amnesty presenting a less restricted time for expression and cultural development. It's quite good though it lacked more perspectives, longer interviews with the figures presented, or even if they could foresee a good change in the political and artistic scenarios, or if we'd become doomed without hope.

The phoenix of the title is Brazil resurrecting from the ashes of social deconstruction, repression, violence and division. It wouldn't be a full rise then in 1980, it'd take a longer time - if ever happened for good. 8/10.
