American film star Dolly Grey loves artists Harry Liedtke and Fritz Kampers so they decide to take a walk through the Black Forest with just twenty marks and a bet as to whether they can survive on that. A couplef tramps steal their money and papers, and so our heroes are arrested under the orders of Hermann Picha, who doesn't like the sketch they made of him. Liedtke escapes and entrances circus acrobat Elizza La Porta. Meanwhile, Fraulein Grey catches up with Kampers and some hundred-dollar bills clear up everything.

It's a loose-jointed frolic, with Liedtke and Kampers playing pranks on everyone. Clearly they were enormously popular and something like this was pretty commercial back in its time. It hasn't aged very well, not in its portraits of free spirits, American movie stars, nor German bureaucrats.
