Dr. Mugg is honestly a pretty bad series, but it has still managed to become a Swedish comedy classic in its own strange way. The production is cheap, the humor is extremely simple and a lot of the acting is deliberately over the top. There are moments where I cannot believe how bad it actually is. At the same time, that low level quality is almost part of what people remember about it.

Markoolio is easily the best thing here for me. He understands exactly what kind of nonsense he is in and gives the series most of its energy. Some of his scenes are genuinely funny simply because he commits completely to the stupidity. The rest of the characters are much more uneven, and a lot of the jokes feel like they were written for one quick laugh and nothing more.

I can understand the nostalgia around Dr. Mugg and why it has stayed in people's memory for so long. There is something very specific about this kind of Swedish comedy from the era that is difficult to recreate now. But nostalgia does not suddenly make the series good. Markoolio gives it some charm and there are funny moments, but as a complete show it is still really weak.
