Continuing with disc three of the Severin box set 'Exorcismo: Defying A Dictator & Raising Hell In Post-Franco Spain' is the documentary 'After...Part One: Can't You Be Left Alone?' (Part Two appears later in the box set).

Made directly after Franco died, it wasn't allowed to be screened until 1983, when the Socialist Party won the elections. Previously, the UCD Government wanted the transition from dictatorship to democracy to appear, to the outside world, as one of peaceful harmony, but as this film shows, it was far from that and they refused any screenings saying that it wasn't a film, just a documentary!!

It's a fascinating piece of work but also incredibly sad. Mainly filmed out in the streets where people, mainly the working class from all political persuasions, were interviewed and it shows how fractious and dangerous the process was and how feelings were boiling over.

While it's inclusion in the box set is obvious, if you look at what is happening in certain countries, it is just as relevant in 2026. There is an often overused phrase in many walks of life which goes something like "We have made changes so something like this never happens again" and invariably the same thing happens again. Humans are not very bright!
