This film was adapted from Tamil stage play Perumal Satchi by Komal Swaminathan. The stage play was previously filmed in Malayalam as Paalazhi Madhanam (1975) with same production company and crews. The stage play later filmed in Telugu as Allari Pillalu (1979).
