A better story than usual and enthusiastic sex performances lift CLAUSURA (literally means cloistered), a shot-on-video XXXer from Italian erotica specialist Luca Damiano. He also made a similar but darker video titled IN THE NAME OF THE DEVIL (not listed in IMDb), but this is the better of the two. IMDb classifies CLAUSURA as a 2001 picture but that is merely a glitch in the database (referring to its later release in Germany); it's a 1999 picture, as it used to be listed in IMDb.

Maria Bellucci is very sympathetic as the heroine, introduced having sex with her handsome music teacher. Her mom catches them in the act, and she is summarily sent to a convent.

A cute nun is assigned to shepherd her in the new life and they immediately have lesbian sex. She talks her into helping her admit the music teacher surreptitiously into the nunnery, and a threesome results, again caught in the act, by the mother superior. However, the MSILF gets turned on and we have a foursome.

Punishment is still in order for this infraction of the rules, so as we hear a chorus singing on the soundtrack, Roberto Malone and other monks ritually whip and hump Maria, as she stands in bondage in stocks (the old New England-style punishment/humiliation), cueing an all-out orgy. Coda is mom arriving to congratulate the nuns on the improvements in her offspring, with Maria winking at the camera in the final shot.

This is actually more entertaining than the usual softcore nuns opus. Probably because one actually cares about Maria, the typical Euro hardcore plenitude of anal sex, d.p.'s and copious money shots does not detract from an emotional connection being established. Too many pornographers (including Luca on occasion) foolishly assume that mechanical sex (and plenty of it, wall-to-wall) is all the fans appreciate, but even a cursory examination of the successes over the past 40 years proves a loyal set of devotees want something more.

It's unfortunate that Gresham's Law has set in with a vengeance; today so-called "adult" entertainment is strictly geared towards the juvenile mind -a diet of all-sex gonzo videos or the idiotic attempts at nostalgia mislabeled as "satire", mainly of old TV series or movies.
