This film criticize the dross of Confucianism, namely, the discrimination of women, and its prohibition of seeking personal freedom in love and romance: according to Confucius, a windowed woman should remain unmarried till her death to show her loyalty to her husband.  Chinese need to discard dross like this and inherit the virtual only.
