The show is based on the incredibly popular Kirby video game series, featuring plenty of elements from the games such as Copy Abilities, Dyna Blade, the inclusion of the Animal Friends from Kirby's Dream Land 2, and so on.
Ted Lewis as Escargoon is an impersonation to Paul Lynde who previously appeared in New Faces (1954).
Out of all the episodes Makiko Ohmoto (Kirby), Kerry Williams (Tiff), Kayzie Rogers (Tuff), Ted Lewis (King Dedede and Escargoon), Eric Stuart (Meta Knight), Dan Green (Costumer Service), and Frank Welker (Animal Vocals) are the only cast members to have been in every episode of the tv series.
For the English dub, Escargoon's voice is based off Paul Lynde, while Chef Kawasaki's voice is based off Ed Wynn, coincidentally in real life, Paul Lynde and Ed Wynn previously worked together in Son of Flubber (1963).
Nago, Pitch and Chuchu were originally going to appear in this anime series but a similar character to Nago named Nagoya made an appearance so the plans for Kirby's animal friends from Kirby's Dreamland 3 were scrapped.
