Evidence of the effect of the Cultural Revolution after it has already ended

The literal translation of the title of this movie is: Be proud, Mother!

This movie is the evidence of the dark shadow of the Cultural Revolution despite the fact that it has already ended nearly half a decade ago when this movie was made.

The audience should not be too harsh to judge to film crew because after all, this is only the very first year of the reform and everyone who experienced the disastrous Cultural Revolution would obviously wanted to play safe, resulting in a film that appears no different than the political propaganda of the Cultural Revolution era.  Many of the flaws were later criticized by the film crew themselves in the later era of reform.

Mandarin-language cinema across Mainland China, Taiwan, and Singapore explores historical reflection, cultural identity, and personal sacrifice, often expressed through poetic visuals and sweeping narratives. In Mainland China, this takes the form of allegory and large-scale epics that reflect on national history. Singapore contributes stories of migration, multiculturalism, and the negotiation of tradition in a globalized city.

The war genre features armed conflicts, both historical and fictional, and the experiences of individuals and groups involved in warfare. This genre explores the physical, emotional, and moral challenges faced by soldiers, civilians, and others affected by war.
