Tremors 4: The Legend Begins

As silly as it looks, the 2-inch bore giant shotgun was a real gun, called a "punt gun". It was used for commercial duck and goose hunting to shoot entire flocks of birds at once. The punt gun was mounted on a flat bottomed boat (a punt), aimed at the side of the lake where a flock was feeding, and fired. Authentic firing punt guns are rare, and none could be acquired for shooting of the film, so a 94-pound, eight-foot-four-inch prop had to be built.

This film helped bring the punt gun into the public spotlight. Retired Kentucky State Trooper turned guntuber Scott DeShields Jr., creator of the highly popular YouTube channel Kentucky Ballistics (2015), had a 1-inch bore punt gun called Fury custom made for his channel. On one of his videos featuring the punt gun, DeShields stated one of the reasons he had the punt gun made was in case he needed to defend his home from a graboid attack.

The movie is set in 1889, but the steam engine seen is a 1912 Case 60hp Traction Engine. While Case had been making steam tractors for 10 years by the setting of this movie, the steam engine seen wouldn't be built for another 23 years.
