The literal translation of the title of this film is: Distraught Wedding

In the traditional Confucian teachings, weddings must be extravagant so that the families would not lose faces, but this custom created many problems when the extravaganza exceeds the actual financial capability.  Just when people had accumulated a little wealth in the early era of economic reform, this ancient bad custom is reappearing again. This movie is a masterpiece of cultural introspection and social criticism in bring this problem to the public attention.
