Sukumari is the strict matriarch of a large rich family . Despite her big plans for her kids , her first son , quite submissive , gets married to Sharada after a love affair . She is always humiliated and taunted by Sukumari as she's the only daughter of an impoverished school teacher . She has big grand plans for all her 3 kids .

Sharada , the ideal DIL never bears grudges but tolerates all taunts quietly . The second son Sukumaran , marries Seema - herself rich and educated. Knowing her nature , he leaves his mother and lives with his wife far away .

Jalaja gets into an illegal relation with another youth .

Soon , Seema returns back with Sukumaran to her in laws house . She realises that he is missing his family .

From here starts a cat and mouse game between MIL and DIL . Sukumari tries every trick in the book to show her authority .

Finally after twists and turns Seema wins every one's hearts. Sukumari also realises the good nature of Sharada and the family unites .

Seema has bold features for her role of an intelligent aware DIL . Sharada wears mostly whites to show her quite nature .

Jalaja is perfect as the darling sister of the family . The 80s were filled with a lot of such family movies .
