It's even worse than I remembered. Nothing works. The framing is awful (clearly, they don't know how to handle a camera), the editing is nonexistent. There are static shots that last almost a minute to clearly reach the required length, and the actors do absolutely nothing. Litteraly nothing. The slow-motion tennis sequence serves no purpose. Well, except for Top Model Gabriella Dufwa, amidst dozens of gratuitous nude shots, making a wink from a previous ad she was in.

There's a staggering array of product placements, each more gratuitous than the last, sometimes to the point of being embarrassing (Marlboro takes the cake). Now we finally know what the Right Wing gilded youth in Paris were like back in 1985.

It's not just bad, it's also from another planet run by advertising writers. All the actors-except Serge Sauvion, the fench voice of Sly Stallone-come more or less from advertising or fashion. You can see it and feel it, because everything is conceived as a long commercial, without a script. I forgot to mention a hint of racism and stereotypes. This is a pinnacle of abysmal writing.

The movie, one of very first to mixed in Dolby Stereo in France, was released in France on january, 16th 1985, heavily marketed... and immediately became a huge flop. 54,491 admissions in 8 years (this thing was in theaters for 8 years!!). I was one of them.

The movie was never to be seen after the VHS release. I recently saw a surviving 35mm copy in bad shape - but no DVD, Blu ray or heaven forbids 4K disc exists. I don't think it has even been aired on Tv or streaming for the last 40 years.

The director never worked again. Gabriella (that I do like btw) did appear in WAXWORK then on the also godawful GLAM before retiring from acting.

This is a disaster movie in every sense of the word. But like almost every disaster, it 's fascinating how anyone with a brain could greenlit and believe it could work. Oh, the 80's.
